Week 5 and 6 Term 4
The news from “China’s Army” and “Matt Harding”
End of year testing is taking up lots of our time at the moment. Results of spelling, reading and maths tests will be in your child’s report. Please remember that these are just one test on one day – like the National Test. They give a snap shot of your child’s abilities. If your child was unwell or out of sorts on the day, they may not have performed at their best. So far the results are very pleasing. Many children are progressing at a great rate with spelling and making excellent progress with their reading.
Lots children have not been practising their multiplication facts. We shall be having a blitz on these in the last few weeks of term. I will send home practice sheets this week for homework. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be exploring graphing for Maths.
On Wednesday, we are going on a short local walk to the war memorial at the corner of South Rd and Flaxmill Rd. We have been reading a novel about a young girl in World war II so the walk ties in nicely with our literature studies. We will be leaving the school at 11.10 and returning at 12.50. Parents, grandparents and special friends are very welcome to join us. Your child can bring in memorabilia (or photos of them) from your own family if you have had any family members serving in the armed forces. On Monday we shall be making poppies to wear on Remembrance Day which is Tuesday. The one minute silence is held at 11 am on 11/11 but as this is in the middle of recess, the school will be having a minute silence at 10.49 instead
Good luck to members of the French Choir who will be out all day Wednesday – singing at the opening of the K-Mart wishing tree as well as visiting some old folks homes. The boys choir are also on tour this week, showcasing their talents to other primary schools.
Week 6
Week 6 is PE week at our school. A timetable was in last week’s newsletter. All students will need their school hats. About 5 of our kids are consistently leaving their hats at home. There may be lunchtime consequences for these students.
Please make sure that your child applies sunscreen before school and brings some to reapply at recess time.
Outdoor activities cease around 12pm.

Class placements are almost finalised for next year. You and your child will be notified as soon as possible who their classmates will be next year. As always, it may not be possible to let you know who the class teacher will be as we often do not know who will be at the school until after January.
Our excursion Thursday 4th December - we are going to Signal Point at Goolwa and then Granite Island at Victor Harbour. Please let me know if you will be able to attend so that I can finalise bus numbers etc. I also need all the permission slips back for each student as soon as possible.
As always, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see me if you have any concerns about your child.
Warm regards
Louisa Guest
