Number the Stars response by Black Hand

Number the stars

Characters

The characters of Number the Stars are Annemarie, Ellen, Kirsti, Peter and the Germans. Annemarie is the main character in the story and she is brave, smart and helper of the Jews’ escape. Ellen is also one of the main characters in the book and she is one of the Jews and brave and had to pretend to be Annemarie’s sister. Kirsti is Annemarie’s younger sister and she is dumb and crazy but sometimes smart. Peter is playing a good role in the book being one of the Resistance fighters and putting his life on the line to help the Danish people. The Germans are the evil guys around and they started WW2 but they were stopped by the Aussies, English and the American blokes.

Jewish People

The Jewish people are the main characters in the book but things they do some things differently to Annemarie’s family. They go to the synagogue, wear the star of David, have new year early and light candles on Fridays. The star of David is the symbol of the jews. A synagogue is the place that the jews go to worship their god. The custom of the Jews is to have a new year in October and go their special church to light candles on every Friday.

Hardships

The people of Denmark and some other countries did not have many things. They couldn’t have butter, electricity, meat and tea. Why they don’t have butter is because the Germans ate all the cows. Why they also don’t have power much because the Germans needed the power to power their factories. Why the people do not have any meat is because the Germans ate all the cows and sheep. The reason why they have no tea is because the transport ships couldn’t get through.

Bravery

One of the bravest people in the book is Annemarie because she doesn’t know much about the war. Even though she knows about some things, she still acts brave in front of the soldiers. The Resistance fighters are brave because they risk their lives to fight the Germans.

My opinion

I think this book is cool because it has a lot about war. I would recommend this book for people who want to find out more about the war.

NUMBER THE STARS

Characters

Annemarie is my favorite person. She faced up to the two soldiers. She had a special mission. She had to get the handkerchief to Uncle Henrick. But she didn’t know what was in the handkerchief.

Jewish people

The Jewish people had a church called the synagogue. They have New Year’s Eve on a different day. The star of David is the special symbol.

Bravery

Annemarie was brave when she faced up to the two soldiers. Peter was brave too, when he made the secret paper. Peter smuggled the Germans for his people. Peter got the Jewish people to safety. He risked his life for his people.

Hardship

The Germans took away most of their food. They ate the meat. They took away the coffee beans. They took away their fish. They took away their chocolate and all their dairy.

My opinion

I like the book because it is very adventurous and sad but very very cool.

Number the stars

Characters:

In this book there are 8 main characters. Their names are Ellen, Ann Marie, Peter, Kristie, Lise, the Johansons, Germans and the Rosens. Ellen is an only child who is best friends with Annemarie. Kristie is Annmarie’s sister who is a bit silly.

Jewish people:

In this story some of the main characters are Jewish like Mr and Mrs Rosen and Ellen. Peter is helping the Jewish people get to Sweden. Lise was also helping before she died.

Bravery:

There are some brave people in this story. Annemarie was brave to lie that nothing important was in the little box. Miss Johansson is brave because she ran all the way to the boat and back. The Rosens are brave too because they didn’t know where they where going and kept quiet.

Hardship:

The people in Denmark could not have bread, milk, sugar or meat. The Germans took all the meat and other dairy products for their own army. Kristie always wanted cupcakes with yellow icing but there was no sugar to make cupcakes.

My opinion:

I think it’s a sad story. I feel for the people who had to go though that war. It’s not fair that the Jewish people got taken away. They must have been really scared.
